Describe a decision you made in the past that helped you learn or grow.
When I was 18, I smoked a little weed back then. While I was sitting getting high watching cartoons, some strange notion came over me. It was profound at the time and slapped me in my face as if to say , ” Hey, stupid, take a good look around you.” I did just that , very slowly, and I saw it. It was the strangest thing I ever saw. I was seeing something new, something alien to me. I hit the joint again for good measure and pondered what it is I saw. For several hours, I sat watching wiley coyote and Bugs Bunny. Time had no meaning to me at this point.
There is always that time when I am forced to face reality. Not to say I am always forced cause there are times when I choose to be a part of reality. The sober mind is a good mind. To be in a constant altered state is not only a lot of work to sustain , it is expensive. I learned this, if I stay altered too long, I start developing too much of my life from altered decisions. I know a lot of decisions I make high will not necessarily be the same decisions I make sober, and I am left with a dilemma. However, this is not what I saw back when I was 18 smoking that Hawaiian red. No, what I saw back then was a life changing revelation. When I looked around, I realized I DID NOT HAVE a JOB !
Now I am sure this doesn’t seem like much to some. To me, it was instant stress. So I rolled another and walked my happy butt down to the USArmy recruiting office in 1983, high as a kite and made one of the best decisions in my life. OK may not seem all that to some, to me I looked to the Army like some kind of Messiah I was so relieved. That’s it, that is my answer. The US Army took good care of me for ten years. I, in turn, took good care the Army. I would advise any young man without direction to consider one of the armed forces of this awesome country.
